Goad

there is a force
in me not mine
propelling on
when I would stay

in my briar patch
the surrounding
pricks confirming
this is home

where I belong
is what I feel
what I know
except here I am

up and away
forwarding when
I would remain
not thinking of

this barren and
this bright
unknown

Just in Time for Valentine's

Someone has a crush on my car -

It must be that intriguing crack in the windshield that got him all excited.

A coworker agrees with me that it's a parts dealer or car lot tactic. Still, a funny note to find at the end of the workday - tucked under my wipers on a rainy night. Which is why I think it's a professional. He thought to use permanent marker and paper thick enough hold up in the rain. Thoughtful touches.

Three for Thursday

This last Thursday, that is. These made for some good listening in the midst of the ice and snow.

January FRSC

January flew by. I couldn't envision a complex evening with fancy food in between house projects and the baby shower earlier in the month. And there was no reason for it. Simple is good.

INVITATION
Hello all you nice people -
We did it! We navigated the holidays. With only a few extra pounds in tow….Because who says no to the eggnog?! The peanut brittle! The pfeffernusse and vanillekipferl!! I don’t.
But enough of this fancy eating and general sloth. Time to get down to business with the FRSC.

Date: January 31, Friday
Time: 6:30 pm / supper at 7:00 pm
Theme: Games! Beer! Sandwiches!

That’s right. 2014’s first FRSC is going to be a game night. Three tables, three different games - everyone rotates through. Get your strategy and smack talk ready. Except not really….the games won’t be long and labored (like Monopoly, ugh) so if you don’t like one, you won’t have to stick it out for very long.

To keep at least one hand free, we’ll be eating sandwiches and drinking beer. Not an hor d’oeuvre tray, truffle tower or girl drink in sight. Just straightforward eating for the new year.

If you are interested, and don't flip game boards over when you are losing, you should let me know.

DETAILS

Hello all,
About this Games! Beer! Sandwiches! night -
As mentioned, all those things will be in place. Since I don’t know what kind of sandwiches everyone likes, it’s going to be build-your-own. Like Subway. Except you have to do it yourself. And I don’t have a sneeze guard. Or disposable gloves. 2014: a year for living dangerously.

What you can bring: Things you like to eat with your sandwich(es). Such as chips! cookies! carrot sticks! etcetera! And you can bring more beer or other drinking items, if you feel so compelled.
See you this Friday, 6:30/7-ish

I did make homemade Samoas. Time consuming, but worth it.
 Some of the games.
 Some of the beer.
