Odd Reflections on Heroism

--he was doomed, like millions, to flee from wisdom and be hero.
Lost Horizons

Could I, I thought, be the last coward on earth?
How terrifying!...All alone with two million stark raving heroic madmen,
armed to the eyeballs...

The Joy of the Oddball

And of friends with small cameras so they carry them all the time to take the pictures for you:

Ahhhh, how boring would life be without plate holders and bumperstickers? This was found during a Peet's coffee run this afternoon. Luckily, the aforementioned friend was with me, or else I would have been stuck with my dinky phone camera. It would have never captured the full glory. I do need to get my own credit card-sized camera.

If You Don't Know Who Icarus Is, Maybe You Should...

For him that Stealeth a Book from this Library,
Let it change into a Serpent in his hand & rend him.
Let him be struck with Palsy, & all his Members blasted.
Let him languish in Pain crying aloud for Mercy,
Let there be no Surcease to his Agony till he sink to Dissolution.
Let Bookworms gnaw his Entrails in token of the Worm that dieth not,
When at last he goeth to his final Punishment,
Let the flames of hell consume him for ever & aye.

Steal not this Book my honest Friend
For fear the Galows should be your hend,
And when you die the Lord will say
And wares the Book you stole away?
