Birthday Card

I have to post this card before I can handle parting with it to send birthday wishes--the original reason for purchase.

Southern Exposure

In honor of heading to the house of the parents in Knoxville, Tennessee, I've posted a couple favorite Portland, Oregon religious signs. The Northwest can't beat the South for fervent billboard proclamations, but we have a few here and there.

Record Players and AM Radio

I've been on a kick of listening to AM radio, taking odd comfort from its imperfections. I started solely because this station plays music I want to hear. But the less than optimum aural experience, the missing elements, makes me feel restful. All things don't have to be premium to be enjoyed. The fuzz and fade give a kind of toehold, a roughened surface to reach from.

A coast trip with friends several weekends ago led me to antique shop browsing. I walked out of one with a GE Stereophonic high fidelity portable record player. It packs up like a suitcase. The stuff my dreams are made of.

It's in my basement workroom and I've been going through the record collection I've held on to, knowing someday I'd have my turntable. Like AM radio, I am happy with the mumbley extra layer, the sound of mechanism.

I also found these.

Prior to child-safe caps and Mr. Yuck stickers, here's how drugs were dispensed. Back in the 1880s drugstores must have looked like wizards' dens.

The Home Office

I work better this way.
